talking heads
kinetic installation, printed acrylic glass, 200x200cm area
aquired by the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems and on display at Sydney Nanoscience Hub / University of Sydney
talking heads, the winning entry in the 2022 Quantum Art Competition facilitated by the Australian Research Centre for Engineered Quantum Systems explores the paradox of structures that look rigid but are visually fluid. The transparent perspex objects were laser cut and hand printed with imagery of parallel curved line patterns. They were designed to hang in space while gently rotating in response to air movement. When they overlap each other, their sinuous patterns shimmer and flow into unpredictable movements of merging patterns. These suggestive ‘accelerations of line’ are not based on the properties of the individual pieces but on the luminant modulations resulting from their crossovers.
